The path towards renewable energy is not an easy one and requires continuous commitment and effort. Nevertheless, we are moving steadily in this direction. We are on our way to becoming energy self-sufficient and already use renewable energy sources for all our activities.

The purchase of the first electric vehicle for Catrina Resort – the VW ID. Buzz – is not only a symbolic milestone, but also another concrete step towards the energy transition that is underway at both Catrina Resort and Bergbahnen Disentis. This journey will continue in the years ahead as we further strengthen our commitment to sustainable mobility and renewable energy solutions.

Minergie

From the very beginning of the Catrina Resort project, we decided to adhere to specific construction standards. One example is the way our apartments were built, based on the Swiss Minergie building concept. This concept incorporates construction methods and features designed to ensure low energy consumption while maintaining the highest level of environmental responsibility

Lai Catrina

Lai Catrina – A Sustainable Water Reservoir in the Mountains

One example of sustainability in the mountains is Lai Catrina, the artificial lake that represents an important step in the responsible management of water resources in alpine regions. Thanks to this reservoir, natural spring water can be conserved while meltwater from snow is collected and reused for snowmaking in a clean and sustainable way.

The lake serves a dual purpose: during the summer months, it becomes a popular meeting place for visitors, featuring swimming and recreational areas, while in winter it provides water for the snowmaking system without wasting valuable resources.

The creation of Lai Catrina is an important example of how tourism activities can be successfully combined with environmental sustainability, helping to ensure a better future for generations to come.

Waste Management

Another key aspect of our green philosophy is the optimisation of waste management in our mountain restaurants. Thanks to modern waste compaction systems, all waste is carefully sorted, compressed and stored, allowing us to optimise transport from the mountain to the village.

This helps us minimise our environmental impact while significantly reducing the use of fossil fuels associated with waste transportation. Through these measures, we continue to improve the sustainability of our operations and contribute to the protection of our alpine environment.
